Environment Management Framework (EMF) Sustainable Development (SD) for ITIs in Gujarat

About the Programme

A study of environmental issues in the ITI system was undertaken in late 2006. As a consequence of this study an Environment Management Framework (EMF) was developed by the Director General of Employment and Training (DGE&T), Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE), Govt. of India, utilizing professional services of Centre for Environment Planning and Technology (CEPT) University, Ahmedabad.

One of the recommendations in the framework includes training and capacity building of various target groups to ensure effective implementation of EMF.

Within ITIs in Gujarat , large scale plantation has already being undertaken. Also, Directorate of Employment and Training, Government of Gujarat is presently conducting seminars, particularly for Principals of ITIs at the state and regional level on Environment Management, Climate Change and Plantation .

The Centre for Environment Education (CEE) Ahmedabad, in response to a request from Directorate of Employment and Training, Government of Gujarat has been involved to capacity build ITIs Principals, Coordinators and Social Studies instructors on:

The EMF (developed by CEPT),
Issues related to climate change and plantation and
Help understand how environment perspective could be integrated into the existing vocational education system.

8 training programmes are scheduled of which 2 have already been conducted. Each programme is of two days duration, for about 150 ITI Principals (3 programmes), 150 Social Studies Instructors (3 programmes) and about 88 Coordinators, Officers of the State Directorate and Master Trainers (2 programmes).

As part of training material, a resource book is also being developed.
